About This Release
Horizon Series was an EP that was released as a series of singles, one month after another… just because I wanted to try doing it a little differently this time. To me, the “horizon” is something I’m always looking at. It’s always changing. Sometimes its simple and stark. Sometimes it’s hidden away behind something. It orients and it grounds. During this time I wasn’t doing all that great, emotionally. I was worried about slipping back into depression, I was having complicated feelings about the recent passing of my mother. I was worried about where I was and where I was going. I wrote these pieces in a ~3 month period of marked creativity. I wanted to be intentional about feeling a thing and then writing something to express that. Instead of trying to write a song about X, I wanted to feel X and keep feeling X while I wrote. I didn’t analyse it at the time, but it was a good tactic for facing myself and not disaccociating. There’s very little guitar on here and this was my first release in that mold.
